Currant Squares

Currant squares, fruit slices or even flies graveyards, these have more than a few names. Some might deem them as old fashioned but they're one of my favourite recipes. If you've never had them, think mince pie but potentially better. The buttery shortbread melts in your mouth and paired with the sweet and juicy fruit inside you can't go wrong. Lets just say they're a classic for a reason!

I came specially to your app as I knew you would have this recipe. I was born in Belfast and lived the first twenty odd years before moving to England ( live at edge of New Forest). Been here twenty five years and am still very homesick! One of my earliest memories was my mother taking these out of the oven and allowing me to have a small slice when it was still warm. Sadly Mummy passed away many years ago and her recipe book just got lost. Tried many times to make this but never quite right. This recipe is exactly how Mummy made them. Don’t mind saying shed a tear or two when these came out of oven.

That first wee slice when they're still warm is glorious 🤤
