Hi Jonny, Had a go at this last night, really tasty! Had 2 slabs with butter and raspberry jam for breakfast. Now going to have 2 with cheese for lunch! Your Grandad is right, the crust is nice and soft, not like other brown (caiscín (I'm from Galway)) breads that cut the roof of my mouth🤣

That looks so good Máirín 👏🏻 Those combo's are hard to beat as well 🤤 He isn't slow, tells it how it is every time 😅 I know the ones you're on about haha! One of my favourites was the brown bread from the Huntsman 🤤

My first time ever making wheaten bread and I'm chuffed with how it turned out. Fab recipe and easy to follow.

I made this today only had coarse wholemeal so maybe that is why it didn't rise as much as your Nannys husband ate but I know he wanted it sweeter so bringing it into work tomorrow for feedback

That's probably why it didn't rise as much Joan, would have been a bit denser. It looks great and I'm sure it was enjoyed 🙌🏻

I baked mine in Ninja and shaped it like a loaf just popped it in an oblong silicone liner and used the bake setting 170 for 20 mins then turned the loaf and 15 mins at 160

Of course Claire, I’d allow it to cool fully and slice before freezing 🙌🏼 It just makes it a lot easier if you only fancy a few slices at a time 😄

Can you explain the rye? Does that come from sifting the whole meal - and is that then added back in (I think that’s what your Nanny did)? Thanks - I’ve made plain soda bread before but not whole meal. It looks lovely. Thank you x

Hi Gwen, yea it’s just the rye/bran that separates from sifting the wholemeal flour 👍🏼 I hope you enjoy it 😄

It’s just from the wholemeal flour when you sift it Amanda 🙌🏼 Just pop it in along with the rest of the dry ingredients 😄
